A 12-Month Impact Plan for America's 250th Anniversary

AMERICA-250

America-250 transforms a historic milestone into a year of service—bringing people together through compassion, dignity, and meaningful action.

1. The "America Gives" Initiative

The official America250 celebration includes a major initiative called America Gives. The goal is to make 2026 the largest year of volunteer service in U.S. history. The campaign challenges every American to donate time or resources, aiming to record millions of acts of kindness that strengthen our communities and honor the spirit of the Declaration of Independence.

2. A Legacy of "Associations"

American kindness is written into our DNA. When observing early America in the 1800s, historian Alexis de Tocqueville famously noted that Americans were unique in their tendency to form voluntary "associations" to solve problems. From Benjamin Franklin’s first volunteer fire brigade to modern food banks, the U.S. has a 250-year history of citizens coming together to help their neighbors without waiting for government instruction.

3. World Leaders in Generosity

Today, that legacy of kindness is stronger than ever. According to Giving USA, Americans donated over $592 billion to charity in 2024 alone. Furthermore, the United States consistently ranks in the top tier of the World Giving Index, which measures how likely citizens are to help a stranger, volunteer their time, or donate money.
